The upcoming Nordic Clean Energy Week offers a wealth of activities, from which it can be hard to decipher which ones to pay attention to. Don’t despair – we’ve got it covered. Keep reading to hear about the most exciting events taking place in Copenhagen in the week of 21-24 May 2018.
The Nordic Clean Energy Week is a collection of energy related activities which will take place in the Greater Copenhagen region during the Ninth Clean Energy Ministerial and Third Mission Innovation Ministerial (CEM9/MI-3). During the week 21-24 May, politicians, researchers, business and industry will gather to discuss future energy solutions.
Nordic students are taking bold action to solve global climate challenges
On 22 May EIT Climate-KIC invites 60 young talents to DTU Skylab for the Clean Energy Hack. In the only event for students during the Nordic Clean Energy Week, future change makers will use their knowledge, insights and creativity to find solutions to climate challenges faced by the cities attending the NCEW. The best solutions will be awarded at the Sustainable Urban Solutions Conference on 23 May with invitations to pitch at the Smart City World Expo in Barcelona in November. Meet the hottest Nordic cleantech start-ups
Out of more than hundred applicants to Cleantech Scandinavia’s Nordic Cleantech Open, 10 have been identified as future game changers, out of which two emerge out of EIT Climate-KIC’s accelerator: Enjay and Epishine. Enjay is moreover nominated for WWF’s Climate Solver Award. Both awards will be handed out on 22 May, and EIT Climate-KIC’s CEO Kirsten Dunlop is giving a keynote to open the day between 9:00-12:00.
On 23 May there will be thematic discussions and further company presentations at the Cleantech Capital Day. This is a networking event for more than 200 investors, industrial companies and handpicked clean technology companies, of which four are enrolled in the EIT Climate-KIC start-up accelerator: Agrilution, Hawa Dawa, Heliac and BrillPower.

Help cities from around the world find innovative solutions to their climate and energy challenges
Together with CLEAN, Tillväxtverket, Innovation Norway, Business Finland, Promote Iceland and Cleantech Scandinavia, EIT Climate-KIC will host the Sustainable Urban Solutions conference in Copenhagen.
The focus of the conference is to assist 12 global cities in the search for innovative solutions to the major sustainability challenges they face. Among the invited cities are the EIT Climate-KIC partners Helsinki, Stavanger, Vejle and Malmö as well as our collaborating cities Hamilton and Singapore. During the day, 400 international guests will meet with leading Nordic and global cities and partners to explore sustainable solutions.
The conference will create a highly relevant platform for action-oriented collaboration, that attracts Nordic and international partners. The conference hopes to reach this by showcasing leading Nordic urban solutions and facilitating co-creation of solutions to city challenges.
You will get the opportunity to hear inspiring keynotes and partake in an exciting panel debate between government officials, companies and people from the cleantech industry. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to directly engage with key city representatives in 10-12 parallel workshops where cities will present concrete challenges.

Learn about innovations and emerging best practice related to mobilizing climate finance
On 23 May, EIT Climate-KIC, The Nordic Working Group for Global Climate Negotiations (NOAK), South Pole, and Gaia Consulting are hosting a workshop on the Nordic public-private collaborative platform for climate finance.
This workshop is part of a larger initiative to promote more efficient exchange and channelling of information on Nordic and international innovations and emerging best practice related to mobilizing climate finance. Transitioning to clean energy is one of the most effective tools for fighting climate change and therefore plays a crucial role in the international climate finance mix.

Sharing local climate solutions
24 May, Copenhagen: Klima 100
With an emphasis on knowledge sharing, best practice and forging new relations across municipal and country borders, this event will mark the release of Realdaniaand Sustainia’s Klima100 report. Gathering the practitioners behind the most innovative local Danish solutions as well as global front runners such as leading C40 cities, the summit will share radical new solutions to assist local governments accelerate the green transition within and across sectors

What are the possibilities and trade-offs of bio-energy?
Being the major form of renewable energy worldwide, bio-energy has the potential to generate more energy than wind, solar and hydro-power combined. In the coming decades, a huge increase in demand for biomass for energy purposes is expected. Where will this biomass come from and what are the impacts of this increased usage? Together with Lund University, EIT Climate-KIC invites you to discuss these issues together with a knowledgeable high profile panel consisting of the former Swedish Environmental Minister and representatives from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), World Bioenergy Organisation and Sweden’s leading universities on this topic.
