New Podcast: Seaweed as a Climate Solution (COP24 special)

Podcast recorded at our COP24 session “Rethink with Bio-economy” unfolds the vast potentials of carbon reduction with seaweed.

What is the full potential of seaweed as a climate solution? We produce 30 million tonnes of seaweed a year, and it only takes up 2% of the carbon released by deforestation in one day! The possibilities are great: it could be used to produce things like energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, ingredients for food. So why haven’t we jumped at this opportunity?
EIT Climate-KIC Nordic and The Nordic Council of Ministers Co-hosted a session on the potentials of Bio-economy on December 6th 2018 at COP24 in Katowice in Poland. The conversations from this session will result in three podcasts featuring people at the forefront of bio-economy and the transmission towards a zero-carbon economy. The podcasts will be produced and published by GreenExchange and the first one is out now!

We’re on a mission to find out why seaweed remains the largest untapped biomass resource in the world. At the session “Rethink with Bio-economy” hosted by Climate-KIC Nordic and The Nordic Council of Ministers at The Nordic Pavilion, Moderator and Change Agent Camille Duran talked to Olavur Gregersen of Ocean RainForest to explore the challenges we face in increasing the value of seaweed, and how to extract the maximum benefits in a safe and sustainable way.
